Sumner Community Pool is penciled in to close on Sunday 5 April 2026, we will keep you updated if there are any changes.
-
Because key sales alone aren’t always enough to keep the pool running.
Some seasons are busy, some are quiet, and our costs don’t change - we still have to cover chemicals, power, maintenance, repairs, and safety no matter how many keys are sold.
Donations help bridge the gap.
If you don’t need a key this year but still want to support the pool, or if you want to give a bit extra on top of your key, then donating is one of the best ways to help keep this community space going.
-
Once you’ve registered on the website and made your payment (either online by card or by direct bank transfer), our volunteers will manually process your order. This can take 48–72 hours.
If any information is missing from your registration, or if payment isn’t made promptly, your key activation will be delayed. To avoid waiting on a hot day, it’s best to get your key sorted early so it’s ready when you need it.
-
Can I bring friends or visitors?
Pool keys are for your household only. This rule isn’t just about funding - it’s also about safety.
When people enter without being registered, we have no way of knowing who is using the pool, whether children are being supervised, or if someone should be contacted in an emergency. Keeping access limited to households helps us manage the pool safely and responsibly.
If you have friends or family visiting, they’re more than welcome to join you during our public swimming sessions. We simply ask that they pay the casual entry fee.
Every swimmer adds to the cost of chemicals and maintenance, so following this rule really helps us keep the pool clean, safe, and open for the community.
Do the right thing - it makes a big difference.
-
Even though the pool is heated, the temperature can still rise or fall depending on the weather.
Overnight lows, strong winds, cloudy days, and rain all affect how much heat the pool holds - especially since it’s outdoors.
We keep the pool covered overnight to help retain warmth, and most days it sits around 26–28°C, but small variations are completely normal.
-
Sumner Community Pool is run entirely by a volunteer committee made up of local residents who give their time to keep the pool open for the community.
Everything from maintenance to admin to key processing is done by volunteers.
Every dollar from key sales and donations goes straight back into the pool to cover costs like chemicals, heating, power, repairs, equipment, and ongoing maintenance.
It’s truly a community effort.
-
Friends of the Pool is our community of locals who choose to support Sumner Community Pool through donations, time, or involvement - even if they don’t need a key themselves.
It’s a way for people who love having the pool in our neighbourhood to help keep it running.
If you’re interested in helping out, please email admin@sumnerpool.co.nz we’d love to have you involved.
